Wilson Dam In Alabama

Item # 2232578

TVA's Wilson Dam was taken over from the War Department in 1933. It was started during the first World War, but not finished until 1925. It helps eliminate the former shoals; the Tennessee River drops 100 feet from the site of the Wheeler Dam, 16 miles upstream from Wilson Dam. Wilson Dam's powerhouse has an installed capacity of 436,000 kw, greatest of any TVA dam. A new navigation lock is being built. It will have a single lift of 100 feet.
