He is particularly renowned for his portraits, nudes, historical subjects, and Orientalist compositions, including "La Grande Odalisque" and "The Turkish Bath." His work is distinguished by graceful contours, refined surfaces, carefully balanced compositions, and subtle distortions of the human figure that emphasize elegance over strict anatomical realism. Although firmly associated with Neoclassicism, his expressive use of line and unconventional forms later influenced modern artists including Degas, Cézanne, Picasso, and Matisse.</p>
