In heavy infestations it can occur anywhere in the cattle's hair coat. It is a common external parasite (sucking louse) of cattle that can cause serious damage if it occurs in high frequency. Cattle will lick, scratch and rub affected areas excessively. Anaemia can occur with increasing chances of other infectious diseases. Eggs are laid in egg cases that are attached to the body hair.
