His early works featured scenes of real life that were warm, engaging, colorful, and filled with light. Then, his later works moved on to more formal-style portraits, often depicting women. Renoir was a very passionate and dedicated painter, even to the point of having to tie his paintbrush to his wrist in old age because he was suffering from severe arthritis.</p>
