Malaria Drug Research

Item # 2959493

Malaria drug research. Close-up of an analytical machine being used in research at the Drug Discovery Unit (DDU), the University of Dundee, UK. This research group works to identify chemical compounds with the potential to be used as drugs. In 2015, it was announced that they have identified a new drug to treat malaria. The work was carried out in collaboration with the Medicine for Malaria Venture (MMV). Malaria is caused by a parasite transmitted into the bloodstream by mosquito bites. It results in cyclic fevers and can kill, affecting millions of people in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Photographed in 2015.
