Guido Reni was an Italian Baroque painter and one of the leading figures of the Bolognese School. Born in Bologna and trained under Denys Calvaert before joining the Carracci circle, Reni developed a refined style deeply influenced by classical antiquity and Raphael. His paintings, particularly his religious and mythological subjects, are distinguished by graceful, idealized figures, elegant compositions, luminous color, and a sense of serene beauty. Although his early work incorporated the dramatic realism associated with Caravaggio, Reni later developed a lighter, more delicate manner characterized by soft shadows, pale tonalities, and statuesque figures. His emphasis on beauty, grace, and idealized human forms made him one of the most celebrated Italian painters of the 17th century.
