<p>German-Swiss painter Hans Holbein the Younger was one of the leading artists of the Northern Renaissance and is particularly celebrated for his exceptionally precise and naturalistic portraiture. Born in Augsburg and trained in the workshop of his father, Holbein developed a sophisticated style distinguished by meticulous drawing, crisp detail, controlled color, and an extraordinary ability to capture both the physical likeness and presence of his sitters. After establishing himself in Basel, he later worked in England, where he became a prominent court painter and created portraits of members of the royal court, aristocracy, merchants, and scholars. Beyond portraiture, Holbein also worked as a designer of woodcuts, illustrations, decorative arts, and other forms of Renaissance visual culture. His refined technique and remarkably detailed observations made his work an important visual record of 16th-century European society and established him as one of the era’s greatest portrait painters.</p>
