Artwork of foetus at 36th week of pregancy

Item # 1154119

John Bavosi

Foetus. Artwork of a foetus in the womb at the 36th week of pregnancy. The foetus develops within the woman's uterus (pink). A fluid-filled amniotic sac (transparent) protects the foetus. The placenta on the uterus wall (at top) acts through the umbilical cord (striped rope-like) as an organ of respiration, nutrition and excretion for the foetus. The cervix (narrow) and vagina (wide) are at bottom. At the 36th week of pregnancy a normal foetus weighs about 2.5kg and is about 46cm long. Its internal organs are usually mature and it is perfectly formed. By this stage the foetus should have turned to lie head down in the pelvis (as seen here).
