English painter, and printmaker William Blake was a pioneering figure of the Romantic era whose art combined visionary imagery, spirituality, poetry, and symbolism. Trained as an engraver, Blake developed an innovative relief-etching process that allowed him to unite text and image in his celebrated illuminated books, including Songs of Innocence and of Experience.
