1902 Bareback Rider in the Circus. Forepaugh (actually Adam Vorback, 1831-1890) was a rough hewn circus pioneer who offered major competition to Barnum & Bailey until his death, but afterwards James Bailey acquired the assets and used the name, combining with two of the Sells Brothers (Lewis and Peter) to create this combined show. As part of this new partnership, Bailey could use some existing Barnum & Bailey designs for his new venture. Here, a bareback rider with excruciatingly fine balance graces this 1-sheet poster with an 1894 copyright used once more in 1902 with the new text as a general invitation to the Forepaugh/Sells Circus which toured the country from 1896 to 1907.
