The columns show: (i) Egyptian hieroglyphs; (ii) Egyptian Hieratic characters; (iii) Oldest Phoenician letters; (iv) Oldest Greek letters; (v) Lapidary Greek at the time of the Persian War; (vi) Greek uncials from c.400 AD; (vii) Greek minuscules; (viii) Old Italian alphabet; (ix) Lapidary Latin from Cicero's time; (x) Latin uncials and minuscules, (xi) Modern square Hebrew.
