Sectioned male head

Item # 1154409

Mehau Kulyk

Section through a human head. Axial (transverse) slice through the healthy human head of a male, showing brain and eyes in natural colours. This is part of the Visible Human Project. The face is at top, with the nose and eyeballs (black) seen. The nasal cavity is visible between the eyes. Optic nerves (white) lead from the eyeballs and cross- over in the brain. Two hemispheres of the cerebrum of the brain are highly folded, showing both white and grey (coloured brown) matter. The cerebrum is where higher thought processes occur. The Visible Human Project is a US project to archive both a male and female body. Each body is scanned and sectioned, for medical research and education.
