On the right-hand side the main surface (superficial) muscles are the trapezius (neck and upper back) and latissimus dorsi (lower back) muscles. On the left-hand side are the deeper muscles, such as the rhomboid, that attaches to the scapula (shoulder blade). The muscles of the back largely work to move the arms.
