Jeff Dai's images of the night sky over the wilderness of China and the Himalayas spectacularly show the immensity of the stars and galaxy that surrounds us.

Moonlight on the Yangtze River in China. Yangtze River, the third longest river in the world, runs from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, surges southeastward until it meets the Hengduan Mountain Range. The unusual geological phenomenons force the Yangtze to make a sudden V-shaped bend and flow to the northeast. This extraordinary turn, nearly 180-degrees, is called First Bend of the Yangtze River. In the sky is the northern stars, from the Cassiopeia at left to Little Dipper and Polaris (the North Star) at top middle and the seven prominent stars of the Big Dipper at right.
