Martian colonization and tourism poster. Illustration of an advert showing a tourist wearing a protective suit with a helmet and oxygen supply, using a jetpack to explore the canyons of Mars. Valles Marineris is the largest canyon system known in the solar system. It is some 4000 kilometres long, 200 kilometres wide and up to 7 kilometres deep. Mars is a rocky desert world with no surface water and a gravity about one third of that on Earth. The atmosphere is mostly carbon dioxide and surface temperatures are well below freezing. This artwork was published in 2015 by SpaceX (Space Exploration Technologies), a private US aerospace and space transport services company. It was founded in 2002 and has developed the Falcon rockets and the Dragon spacecraft. Future plans include crewed flights to Mars.
