Place your chair near enough to the machine to enable you to sit erect while operating; raise the Presser foot by moving the Presser Bar Lifter, No. 48 upward as far as it will go; place your feet evenly on the Treadle, No. 182, with the instep directly over the Threadle, No. 183, and with the right hand turn the Balance Wheel in the direction indicated by the arrow. Keep the machine in motion by pressing with the heel and toe alternately upon the treadle, until you can run the Machine regularly, and start and stop with ease.
