About African-American Art
This collection is of the ever-growing body of creative work generated by artists of the African diaspora. While African-American art depicts the struggles, the victories and the emotions of a group of people united by common experiences and traditions, art by people of African and Caribbean descent celebrates their long and rich cultural history. What started with hand-sewn quilts, basket weaving, and clay sculpting, has evolved into an even more diverse form of art making. This collection of art by Black artists not only includes multiple interpretations of the black body, but also colorful abstracts, watercolor florals, and photography.
