Who is ArtStartArt?
When we first read ArtStartArt’s thesis “art is a transformative experience that fuels the creation of even more art.” we knew this team would be a great fit with Great Big Canvas. Founders Erik Culver and Alok Marwaha are passionate about helping art students reach the art-buying market and find success as creators and makers after graduation. Working with over 130 schools and counting, ArtStartArt has created an online art sales platform for students to sell their original pieces while in school.
Every purchase from their monthly art listings directly supports that student artist, as well as introducing them to the ‘business’ behind being a commercial artist. The students price, pack, and ship their own work directly to the buyer, with the ArtStartArt team providing help at each step along the way. With over ten years experience in the fine art distribution, we’re excited to see how we can help bring their transformative art mission to an even wider audience by helping students create high-quality wall art prints of their original pieces. Every sale from this collection supports not only art, but up-and-coming artists making their name in the industry.
Meet the Collection
The ArtStartArt x GBC collections contains work from a variety of styles - the pieces originate from oil paintings, photography, acrylic paintings, pen and ink, and more mediums. Twenty eight student artists from over seventeen schools have contributed to this collection as of its launch and we look forward to helping their art grow. Meet some of the artists who have contributed - we asked them to introduce themselves and share why they’re excited to work with Great Big Canvas.
Silly Slope Stretches by Rachel Parnell, University of Texas at Austin, available from Great Big Canvas
I believe we all are artists; we all think creatively, we all have ideas. Let’s share those ideas, let’s make great art. Like many artists, I simply want to share with the world my inner thoughts.
What excites me the most it the chance to share. I have no idea where this journey will take me, but I want to find out. This experience will allow me to see what I may be able to accomplish in my career.
I am very excited to be able to make art that connects with people so well that they would consider having them in their home as a part of their lives. That feels so powerful to me.
Paradise by Sofia Conde, University of Texas at Dallas, available from Great Big Canvas
I am a mathematics student who is passionate about art. My subjects mend both the traditional and surreal as I explore symbolism and the dynamic relationship between light, color, form, and geometry.
GreatBigCanvas is a great website that gets significantly more traffic than the walls of my studio and I am excited that my artwork and message could be visible to more people and potential buyers.
I am a painter and collage artist. My work is an exploration of the arrangement of color, shape and form. My art is based in the understanding of the formal language and the mediums I use. I am excited to be given the chance to have my work circulate the market. As an up and coming artist I believe exposure is important in building a reputation as well as building relationships, and this opportunity presents these ideas well.
