<p>Water mill and pump, historical artwork. This apparatus is designed to harness the energy of a river to drive a pump. The artwork is from a 1701 edition of an English translation of the book 'New and rare inventions of water-works'. This work was originally published in French in 1644 by the landscape architect Isaac de Caus (1590-1648), and was itself based on an earlier work of 1615.</p>
