Sandpiper, historical artwork

Item # 1412728

Sheila Terry

Common sandpiper. Historical artwork of a common sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos). This is a migratory wading bird that feeds around water. It breeds on high ground in northern Eurasia, feeding on insects alongside lakes and fast-flowing streams. In the winter it heads to Africa or South-east Asia and feeds around estuaries and lakes. It may reach over 20 centimetres in length. This artwork was drawn by Archibald Thorburn (1860-1935).
