<p>William Kidd, also known as Captain William Kidd or simply Captain Kidd, was a Scottish sea captain who was commissioned as a privateer and had experience as a pirate. In May of 1701, he was charged for the murder of one of his crew and multiple acts of piracy. He was hanged on May 23, 1701.</p>
