<p>Distillery, 19th century artwork. Workers participating in various stages of the distillation process. At left, the boiler is being refuelled and stoked to provide the heat needed to boil the alcoholic liquid being distilled. At centre, vats of wine or other alcoholic drinks are being moved. In the background, distillation equipment is being used to produce concentrated alcoholic liqueurs, with the vapours carried from the vats through pipes to condensation chambers. At right, the liqueurs produced are being sampled. This artwork is from a French school textbook, dating from circa 1890-95.</p>
