Item # 1139967

Matthew Oldfield

<p>Bobtail squid (order Sepiolida) on the seabed. Like all squid, bobtail squid have small sacs of pigment beneath the surface of the skin called chromatophores. The squid is able to control the size of each of these sacs and so is able to change the colours and markings on its body. The chromatophores of a bobtail squid and comparatively large and very obvious. These small squid are active at night, preferring to spend the day buried beneath the sand.
