Heart anatomy, 19th Century illustration

Item # 1410936

Heart anatomy, 19th Century illustration. Historical hand coloured lithographic print showing the internal anatomy of the human heart. The heart is composed of four chambers. Two upper chambers, the atria, and two lower chambers, the ventricles. The left and right side of the heart are separated by the septum. Between each atrium and ventricle and between the chambers and the major blood vessels are valves (centre) that prevent the backflow of blood. Image from 'Traite complet de l'anatomie de l'homme, comprenant la medecine operatoire' Vol. 4 (1836), by Jean-Baptiste Marc Bourgery and illustrated by Nicolas-Henri Jacob.
