Bacteria like these ause lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI), which is known as bacterial pneumonia. Pneumonia can also be caused by viruses, fungi, parasites, and chemical or physical injury to the lungs. Severe LRTIs are treated by prescribing a course of antibiotics.</p>
