<p>American planes flying photographic reconnaissance over Normandy, France, in preparation for the Normandy Invasion, WWII, May 1944. They are flying the F-6A, the reconnaissance version of the P-51 Mustang. The 107th Observation Squadron, Michigan National Guard, one of 29 National Guard observation squadrons, became the first operational photographic reconnaissance squadron in Northern Europe in December 1943.
