Founded in 1729, Baltimore is the most populated city in Maryland and sits on the west coast of the Chesapeake Bay which established it as a major U.S. seaport. Its Inner Harbor was once one of the busiest ports of entry for immigrants into America. The National Aquarium and Harborplace are now prominent features in the harbor.
Baltimore is named for its founding proprietor, Lord Baltimore from the Irish House of Lords. (He had been named after a place in Ireland called Baltimore.)
